The New York Jets placed quarterback Mark Sanchez on the injured reserve Saturday, but it might not mean the end of his 2013 season since he was given a designation to return. The Jets will now be able to pull Sanchez off the injured reserve any time after eight games if he has recovered from his shoulder injury.

According to John Butchko of SB Nation’s Jets blog, Gang Green Nation, giving Sanchez the designation to return was a waste and a bad decision:
I struggle to see the logic behind designating Sanchez for return. It isn’t like he is going to come back and save the season. That spot probably could have been saved for somebody more valuable. Plus there are already rumblings about Sanchez wanted to return against the Jets wanting him to return. It feels like this could become a source of drama and a needless distraction that wouldn’t have happened if Sanchez was straight put on IR.

The Washington Redskins signed kicker John Potter on Saturday and elected to release Pat White, one of the team's four quarterbacks to make room. A second-round pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, White lasted just one season with the Miami Dolphins and spent three seasons out of the NFL before sticking with the Redskins. He managed to make the roster as the fourth-string QB behind Robert Griffin III, Kirk Cousins and Rex Grossman.
Ian Rapoport of NFL.com believes that the Redskins intend to bring White back next week if he clears waivers. In preseason, White completed 28-of-50 passes for 330 yards with two interceptions and no touchdowns.
The Indianapolis Colts will likely be without tight end Dwayne Allen on Sunday, as the team downgraded him from questionable to doubtful on Saturday as he looks to recover from a hip injury suffered in the team's victory over the Oakland Raiders.
Allen caught just one pass in the season opener, but it was a 20-yard touchdown from Andrew Luck that put the Colts ahead 14-0 early. One of two tight ends drafted by the Colts in 2012, Allen finished his rookie season with 45 receptions, 521 yards receiving and three touchdowns.
The Dallas Cowboys will give 36-year-old offensive lineman Brian Waters "significant playing time" in their Week 2 game against the Kansas City Chiefs, according to executive vice president Stephen Jones. A six-time Pro Bowl selection, Waters was signed prior to the season to give the team veteran help.
After sitting out the entire 2012 season, Waters did not play in the team's Week 1 game against the New York Giants, but is evidently ready now to contribute for the Cowboys.
