Mikel Leshoure would accept trade from Lions, per report

Mikel Leshoure is buried on the depth chart in Detroit and is reportedly open to a trade.

Timothy T. Ludwig-USA TODAY Spor

Detroit Lions running back Mikel Leshoure is open to being traded, reports ESPN's Adam Schefter. Leshoure has accepted his role as a backup, but Schefter says that he would like to move to a team that would use him more.

Leshoure was the nominal starter for Detroit last season, but he ended up splitting time with Joique Bell. He fell further down the depth chart when the team signed Reggie Bush in the offseason and was inactive for last week's win over the Minnesota Vikings. Leshoure rushed for 798 yards and nine touchdowns in 2012.

Leshoure’s main strength is as a power runner, but the Lions don’t have much use for that role in their pass-happy offense. He hasn’t been the same since an Achilles tear wiped out his 2011 season, getting just 3.7 yards per carry last season. The Lions kickoff at 4:05 p.m. ET and haven’t announced their inactive list yet, but it won’t be a surprise if Leshoure is a healthy scratch again.
