NFL could suspend Dashon Goldson for hit on Darren Sproles

The Buccaneers may have a temporary hole to fill on defense with the NFL considering a suspension for safety Dashon Goldson.

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Buccaneers' safety Dashon Goldson may be in for a major punishment following his massive helmet-to-helmet hit on Saints' running back Darren Sproles on Sunday during their matchup in Tampa Bay.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the NFL is considering a suspension for Goldson due his lengthy history with helmet-to-helmet hits. Schefter reports that, since 2010, Goldson has had 15 personal foul penalties -- more than any other player in the league.

Goldson was fined $30,000 for an unnecessary roughness penalty against the Jets in Week 1.

Goldson played six seasons for the 49ers prior to joining the Bucs this offseason and is a two-time Pro Bowler. The former fourth-round pick out of Washington has yet to be suspended for his personal fouls, but has been fined thousands of dollars over the years.

If Goldson is suspended by the league, he will likely appeal. If he is granted an appeal, he will not miss Week 3 and will travel with his team to take on the New England Patriots as they try to improve their 0-2 record.
