AFC South injuries: Maurice Jones-Drew sprains ankle, Andre Johnson suffers concussion

The AFC South suffered some tough injuries in Week 2, including a couple players who can influence fantasy football lineups.

The only team from the AFC South to earn a win in Week 2 was the Houston Texans, who managed an overtime victory against another AFC South team, the Tennessee Titans. Both the Indianapolis Colts and Jacksonville Jaguars also suffered defeat in the second week of the season, but they also sustained some injuries, as well.

Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew was the highest-profile player to go down on Sunday, as a sprained ankle in the second quarter hampered his day. Jones-Drew limped to the sideline after he was awkwardly twisted to the ground by a diving tackle, but was originally ruled probable to return to the game against the Oakland Raiders. He was later downgraded to questionable and ultimately never made another appearance.

After the game, Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley told reporters that X-Rays were negative for the three-time Pro Bowler, but no further update on his future playing status was given. Jones-Drew suffered season-ending injuries in both 2010 and 2012.

Also taken out of the lineup on Sunday was Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson after he suffered a concussion against the Titans. Johnson is expected to return to the team's lineup in time for a Week 3 game against the Baltimore Ravens, but Texans tight end Owen Daniels wasn't happy about the hit that sent him out of the game.

The prognosis wasn't as positive for Colts offensive lineman Donald Thomas, who suffered a torn quad muscle in the team's loss to the Dolphins. Described by Brad Wells of SB Nation's Colts blog, Stampede Blue, as the "only guard that [the Colts] could consistently depend on," the loss of Thomas is tough for a team that has already allowed Andrew Luck to be sacked seven times in 2013.
