Carolina Panthers cornerback Josh Norman has an MCL sprain and deep thigh contusions, according to Jonathan Jones of the Charlotte Observer, potentially leaving an injury-plagued secondary without yet another player heading into Week 3 against the New York Giants. Earlier Monday, the team announced that starting safety Charles Godfrey is out for the season.

The Panthers’ list of injured defensive backs continues to grow. Cornerback Josh Norman started Sunday and now has an MCL sprain, according to reports.

Norman was unsure about his status for Sunday, saying "we'll see Wednesday" when pressed. He reportedly started over Captain Munnerlyn during last Sunday's loss to the Buffalo Bills before getting hurt. Along with Norman and Godfrey, cornerback Josh Thomas (concussion) and safety Quintin Mikell (right ankle sprain) also suffered Week 2 injuries and are likely to land on the team's injury report this week.
The rash of injuries come at a bad time for a Panthers squad that is reeling after two straight losses. The secondary struggled in both games, and there isn’t any indication that the unit will improve in the coming weeks. The defense can still rely on a stout front seven, but at some point the Panthers will need to prevent receivers from running free if the team still hopes to make the playoffs this season.
