The San Francisco 49ers will now turn to Glenn Dorsey, who was signed in the offseason, to give the 49ers more depth at their defensive tackle position.
An undrafted free agent in 2011, Williams slowly moved his way up the depth chart over the last two years. He battled with Dorsey for the starting job in training camp, winning it before the start of the season. In three seasons he has registered three tackles.
The defensive front struggled in Sunday’s loss to the Seattle Seahawks, allowing 172 total rushing yards and two touchdowns. Williams is not an elite level defensive tackle, but his injury creates a domino effect on the line and undermines the team’s depth.
There has been no announcement of any signings San Francisco has made to fill Williams’ roster spot.
