Russell Okung injury: Seahawks tackle has torn ligament in toe

Seattle may be without its Pro Bowl left tackle for at least a week due to a toe injury.

Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

Seahawks left tackle Russell Okung tore a ligament in his toe on Sunday and is likely to miss at least one game, according to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Okung went down during Sunday night's game against San Francisco. He was taken back to the locker room for evaluation before eventually returning to the sidelines. He attempted to warm up at one point, but did not return to the game. Paul McQuistan moved from left guard to left tackle in Okung's place, with James Carpenter taking over at left guard. Seattle also has rookie Alvin Bailey as a backup tackle, although he was inactive on Sunday.

Injuries have been an issue for Okung since being drafted in the first round in 2010. He missed six games his rookie season due to an ankle injury, then four games in 2011. Okung started 15 games last season, missing one due to an injury.

If Okung is out for any length of time, the Seahawks may need to adjust their rushing attack. San Francisco’s Aldon Smith frequently got the better of McQuistan on Sunday, although Pete Carroll said he was impressed by McQuistan’s performance after McQuistian got no practice time at tackle.

The Seahawks play Jacksonville at home in Week 3 before back-to-back road games against Houston and Indianapolis.
