Titans vs. Texans 2013: Fans react to Houston’s comeback victory

The Titans led by eight points late in the game, but the Texans came back and eventually prevailed in overtime. Like you’d expect the reaction from the two fan bases was decidedly different.

Thomas Campbell-USA TODAY Sports

The Houston Texans struggled offensively for much of Sunday's game against Tennessee before a late touchdown drive tied the game. Houston went on to win the game in overtime and the comeback generated a significant response from both Tennessee and Houston fans.

The offensive struggles were the story for the Texans before the game-tying drive in the fourth quarter. Battle Red Blog documented the early issues, especially in the running game. The late drive in the fourth quarter and the game-winning drive in overtime masked the early issues, at least for now. Instead, the story was Houston’s ability to come back from a deficit for the second straight week.

Here's the story: Your Houston Texans aren't quitters. Your Houston Texans are resilient. Your Houston Texans break the hearts of opposing fans after they see their team surprisingly dominate 95% of the game. Your Houston Texans are 2-0 as they head to meet the defending Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens.

Tennessee had a chance to put the game away late, but a dropped pass an an errant throw cost the Titans. Execution wasn't the only issue, however, with Music City Miracles breaking down some issues with Tennessee's playcalling. The Titans got too conservative too early and it cost them.

I understand that pounding the rock even when it’s not working is part of the Titans new identity. Honestly, I’m all for it as the Titans had a lot of success playing that brand of football. But at some point stubborn is stubborn. The repetitive combination of Run/Run/Pass became maddening to watch as the Texans consistently keyed on the run and then forced a 3rd and long. Something the Titans staff harped on avoiding all offseason.
The Titans tried to run out the clock, but instead just ran out the win.
