Steelers vs. Bengals 2013 game recap: Bengals take care of business at home

It wasn’t the prettiest win, but the Bengals did enough offensively to pick up a key win against Pittsburgh.

The Cincinnati Bengals improved to 1-1 on the season with a 20-10 victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday Night Football.

Neither team was particularly effective with the ball, but the Bengals were able to do enough to get the win. Pittsburgh got on the board first with a field goal early in the game. The Bengals took the lead late in the quarter following a five-play, 87-yard touchdown drive. Rookie tight end Tyler Eifert made the key play on the dive, hauling in a 61-yard reception.

After Cincinnati added a field goal to take a 10-3 lead, the Steelers responded with their lone touchdown drive of the night. Ben Roethlisberger capped the 65-yard drive with a 1-yard touchdown pass to Derek Moye.

The second half was all Cincinnati. Giovani Bernard put the Bengals up 17-10 with his second touchdown of the game on a 27-yard reception. Bernard proved to be a weapon out of the backfield and the Steelers had issues corralling him in space. Cincinnati was able to tack on a field goal in the fourth quarter to make it 20-10.

The Steelers made a late charge, driving deep into Bengals territory. Pittsburgh was unable to come away with points, however, as Roethlisberger's pass was intercepted by Reggie Nelson at the Cincinnati 13-yard line. The Bengals were able pick up a couple of first downs and run the clock to ice the game.

The loss dropped Pittsburgh to 0-2.

Fantasy studs and duds

Bernard was the offensive star for the Bengals, scoring both of Cincinnati's touchdowns. Bernard rushed for 38 yards and a touchdown while catching one pass for 27 yards and another score. A.J. Green didn't have a huge game, catching six passes for 41 yards.

Roethlisberger threw one touchdown, but finished the game with just 251 passing yards and an interception. A good chunk of his passing yards came on the final possession.

Injury report

Isaac Redman left the game for the Steelers and was checked for a concussion. He was later cleared and returned to the game.

Defensive lineman Robert Geathers left the game with an elbow injury while cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick exited with a strained hamstring. Neither player returned for the Bengals.

Did they cover?

The Bengals opened as a 6-point favorite and were able to cover the spread with the 10-point victory.
