Ray Rice accused of spitting on Phil Taylor

The Ravens running back spit on Taylor, according to the large nose tackle.

Rob Carr

Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice has been accused of spitting on Cleveland Browns nose tackle Phil Taylor by the man himself, according to Pro Football Talk.

Apparently during the Ravens 14-6 win on Sunday over the Browns, Rice was tackled for a 3-yard loss by Desmond Bryant and then got in the face of Taylor. At that point, Taylor alleges that Rice spit on him, saying that is why he slapped Rice's helmet and earned an unsportsmanlike penalty.

There is allegedly video evidence of the incident, which is being sent to the league office in New York for review. Should Rice be found guilty of spitting, he is likely to be fined. Baltimore head coach John Harbaugh says he reviewed the video and didn’t see anything to make him believe Taylor, per Baltimore Beatdown:

“I’ve not talked to Ray about it,” Harbaugh told reporters. “It was brought to my attention. I watched it; I didn’t see that on the tape.”

Jason Butt of Baltimore Beatdown doesn’t believe it is likely Rice did what Taylor is accusing him of considering his past, but can’t be sure it did not happen after watching the video:

It would be out of character for someone like Rice to do so, given his track record of sportsmanship on the field. But when you look at the replay, it does appear Rice makes a pucker face, which could be construed as spitting.
