Cincinnati Bengals release RB Bernard Scott

The Bengals have released Bernard Scott from the Reserve/PUP list. He had been recovering from a torn ACL.

David Kohl-US PRESSWIRE

The Cincinnati Bengals have released running back Bernard Scott, the team confirmed on its Twitter page. Scott started the season on the Reserve/PUP list and is now an unrestricted free agent.

Scott spent the past four years with the Bengals, mainly in a backup role. He got his most playing time in 2011, rushing for 380 yards on 112 carries. Scott tore his ACL last season and played only two games. His role was further reduced when the Bengals drafted Giovani Bernard in the second round and he missed all of training camp and preseason.

The Bengals now have Bernard, BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Cedric Peerman and Rex Burkhead on the depth chart. Green-Ellis and Bernard have been splitting carries, while Peerman is dealing with a foot injury. Bernard could be in line for more touches after stealing the show on Monday night, scoring two touchdowns and helping the Bengals defeat the Steelers, 20-10.
