Shonn Greene injury: Titans RB could miss 2 more games

Tennessee’s backup back will be sidelined for the rest of September with an ailing knee.

Don McPeak-USA TODAY Sports

The Tennessee Titans will likely be without reserve running back Shonn Greene for the next two weeks. Greene underwent arthroscopic surgery on his knee, according to ESPN com, after rest apparently wasn't able to cure him.

Greene injured his knee in the season-opening 16-9 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. After resting for a week and sitting out last Sunday's game against the Houston Texans, Greene decided to get surgery.

The Titans expect Greene to play an important role in the offense this season, giving Chris Johnson some rest and picking up the tough yards inside. Tennessee signed Greene as a free agent, giving him a three-year, $10 million deal in the offseason. Since Greene has been hurt, Jackie Battle has stepped into his role.

Greene played the first four seasons of his career with the New York Jets, where he rushed for over 1,000 yards in each of the last two campaigns -- including a career-high total of 1,063 in 2012.
