Maurice Jones-Drew injury: Jaguars RB could play vs. Seahawks

Reports indicate the sprained tendon in MJD’s ankle won’t sideline him this weekend.

Bob Stanton-USA TODAY Sports

The ankle injury Maurice Jones-Drew suffered last Sunday may not keep him out of the lineup this weekend.

Sources have told Ian Rapoport that the Jacksonville Jaguars running back is "good" and that they plan to play him this weekend against the Seattle Seahawks.

Jones-Drew was forced out of last week's game against the Oakland Raiders in the second quarter, and an MRI later revealed he had suffered a tendon sprain in his left ankle. Initial reports had him questionable heading into this weekend.

The powerful halfback has been hampered by lower-leg injuries recently, having missed 10 games last season with a Lisfranc injury in his left foot.

The Pro Bowler’s availability in the backfield is of major concern to a Jacksonville offense that has been outscored 47-11 in back-to-back blowouts to begin the 2013 season. They currently rank dead last in total offense, managing a measly 213 yards per game.

Jones-Drew, two seasons removed from leading the league in rushing, has done little to help those numbers. As the only real offensive weapon on the team, he has been keyed on by opposing defenses, resulting in just 72 yards and no touchdowns through two games.
