NFL news roundup: What you may have missed, non-Trent Richardson edition

With the Trent Richardson trade dominating headlines, you may have missed the other major stories on a busy Wednesday. Check out SB Nation’s news roundup for more on Dwayne Allen, Ryan Clady and the Browns’ quarterback situation.

Andy Lyons

The Indianapolis Colts and the Cleveland Browns perhaps pulled off the bombshell story of the year so far, exchanging former No. 3 overall pick Trent Richardson for a 2014 first-rounder. Thankfully, SB Nation has a handy storystream set up to provide you with all of the latest reactions and analysis on the mind-blowing deal. Check it, then circle back to check out what you may have missed Wednesday in non-Richardson news.

For example:

Dwayne Allen out for the season

Good thing the Colts' added some firepower to their running game, because the passing game took a major hit Wednesday. Tight end Dwayne Allen will undergo hip surgery, and miss the rest of the 2013 NFL season as a result. Allen had 45 receptions for 521 yards and three touchdowns as a rookie, but was held to one reception for 20 yards and one touchdown this season. Coby Fleener is expected to be see extra targets with Allen out.

Brian Hoyer to start Week 3 for Browns

And now we perhaps understand the Browns' side of the Richardson trade a bit better. Brandon Weeden is nursing a sprained thumb, and will sit Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings. Long time backup Brian Hoyer will get the start, and Browns no doubt are hoping he can provide a spark over the ineffective Weeden. The outlook is not so good.

Ryan Clady out for the season

More bad injury news, this time for the Denver Broncos. Ryan Clady is considered one of the best left tackles in football, and he'll be on the shelf until 2014 so he can recover from foot surgery. Chris Clark, who has six starts since being entering the league as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2010, is expected to take Clady's spot in the lineup. How he performs could hold the key to the Broncos' Super Bowl chances.

Antonio Brown butts head with Todd Haley

Antonio Brown and Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley reportedly got in a heated argument after the Steelers' loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday night. Brown was apparently upset he didn't have his number called more often during the game. He finished with six catches for 57 yards on 11 targets, as the Steelers went on to score just 10 points.

Saints lose CB Patrick Robinson for season

Wednesday was a bad day for important NFL starters, indeed. The New Orleans lost starting cornerback Patrick Robinson to injured reserve due to a right leg injury. He had to be carted off the field during Sunday's win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The New Orleans Saints signed Chris Carr off the free agent market to add depth in the secondary, but he likely won't be able to match the emergent play Robinson provided.

Dashon Goldson suspension overturned

Dashon Goldson appealed his one-game suspension for an illegal helmet-to-helmet hit he laid on Darren Sproles, and won. The Buccaneers' safety was slated to miss Week 3 against the New England Patriots, but is now expected to suit up. His $30,000 fine still stands, but that shouldn't bother Bucs fans. Goldson's presence on the field will be much appreciated against Tom Brady and a ragtag group of wide receivers.
