Eddie Lacy injury: Packers RB ‘making progress’ after concussion, Mike McCarthy says

After leaving Sunday’s game, the rookie running back made an appearance at practice and team meetings Wednesday.

Green Bay Packers running back Eddie Lacy observed practice and participated in team meetings Wednesday, writes ESPN Wisconsin blogger Jason Wilde. Head coach Mike McCarthy sees this as progress, with Lacy trying to return after being concussed in Sunday's game by Redskins' safety Brandon Meriweather.

“He seems to be doing fine,” McCarthy said. “He’s going through the protocol, so we’ll take another step tomorrow.”

The “protocol” McCarthy mentioned refers to rules regarding concussions instituted by the NFL before the 2011 season. Teams must now prove that players have no lingering symptoms before returning to practice or game action.

Lacy had been somewhat of a feature back for the Packers, notching 15 touches in their opening game against the 49ers. However, the rookie from Alabama got just one touch before Meriweather ended his day in Green Bay. In his place, James Starks had the game of his life, averaging 6.6 yards per carry on his way to 168 yards from scrimmage. McCarthy hasn't ruled out Lacy for Sunday, but says that Starks will start in either scenario.

Meriweather was fined $42,000, but will miss no time for the hit.
