Willis McGahee signs with Browns, plans to play Sunday, per report

The Browns now have their replacement for the newly-departed Trent Richardson.

The Browns traded Trent Richardson to the Colts on Wednesday and found his replacement on Thursday. Veteran running back Willis McGahee has signed with the Cleveland after passing a physical, according to NFL.com's Jeff Darlington.

McGahee, who last played for the Broncos from 2010-2012, hopes to play on Sunday against the Vikings, despite having just three days to prepare, according to Darlington. The 11-year veteran is coming off a torn medial collateral ligament and compression fracture in his right knee that sidelined him on injured reserve for most of last season.

While he is coming off of injury, McGahee is just two years removed from his second Pro Bowl season in 2011. He has compiled 8,097 rushing yards and 63 rushing downs in 10 seasons with the Bills, Ravens and Broncos.

McGahee is likely to be the Browns’ starting running back for the rest of this season, but may take a backseat to Bobby Rainey in the Week 3’s matchup against the Vikings.

Minnesota will host the Browns on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on CBS.
