Brandon Marshall leaves Bears practice with tight back

Chicago’s premier target only got halfway through scheduled practice today, but the Bears are hopeful it’s just a precaution.

USA TODAY Sports

Chicago Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall left practice today after feeling tightness in his back, according to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune. With no known history of back trouble, the Bears "hope" that this issue will work itself out.

Marshall, a four-time Pro Bowler, spent most of the offseason rehabbing from hip surgery. He last missed practice because of the hip on Aug. 28, but the injury hasn’t slowed down his season. He is averaging over 100 yards in the first two games and has a touchdown grab in each contest.

If the worst-case scenario presents itself with Marshall missing time, head coach Marc Trestman will most likely start six-year veteran Earl Bennett opposite Alshon Jeffery. Bennett, who had some concussion issues in the preseason, has just three receptions on the season.

Marshall set career highs in all major categories last season, catching 118 balls for 1,508 yards and 11 scores while becoming Jay Cutler’s favorite target. The pair, both drafted by Denver in 2006, are one of the best quarterback-wide receiver tandems in the NFL.
