Barkevious Mingo participates in individual drills at Browns practice

The Browns first-round pick is back on the field after suffering a bruised lung.

USA TODAY Sports

The Cleveland Browns are feeling a bit better about their defense on Monday. That's because top pick Barkevious Mingo is returning to practice, according to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Mingo has been out of commission since the second preseason game against the Detroit Lions when he was sidelined with a bruised lung. Once he gets back to full speed, he'll be able to form a strong rotation at outside linebacker with Paul Kruger and co.

Mingo was a force with the LSU Tigers, becoming one of the best defensive ends in the loaded SEC during his time in college. He and Sam Montgomery were a feared pass-rushing combo for Les Miles, leading the team to a BCS Championship Game appearance in 2011. Montgomery was drafted by the Houston Texans.

The Browns open up the season against the Miami Dolphins at home, looking to get the regime of Rob Chudzinski off on the right foot.
