Raiders release Alex Barron, sign Tony Pashos

The Raiders added Tony Pashos, a 33-year-old veteran with 92 games of experience in the NFL.

Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

The Oakland Raiders released offensive tackle Alex Barron on Monday to make room for Tony Pashos, who was released by the Washington Redskins on Saturday in final cuts, the team announced.

Barron, 30, was a first-round pick in the 2005 NFL Draft and played five seasons with the St. Louis Rams where he became known for being one of the most penalized players in the NFL. Considered by Ryan Van Bibber of Turf Show Times as the third-biggest Draft bust in Rams history, Barron was traded to the Dallas Cowboys in 2010 for linebacker Bobby Carpenter.

After one season with the Cowboys, Barron has since had stints with the New Orleans Saints, Seattle Seahawks and Raiders, but hasn't played in a game since his 2010 season with the Cowboys.

Replacing Barron on the roster is Pashos, a 33-year-old veteran with 92 games of experience, including 70 starts, mostly at right tackle. Pashos hasn't seen the field since 2011 with the Browns and missed the entire 2012 season with a foot injury, but played well in his preseason time with the Redskins.
