The Buffalo Bills are in the process of adding veteran safety Jim Leonhard eight years after he originally signed with the team as an undrafted rookie in 2005, Bills head coach Doug Marrone said on Monday.

Eight years after signing with the Bills as an undrafted free agent, Jim Leonhard is set to return to the team.

Leonhard, 30, began his career with the Bills and played three years with the team before leaving to join the Baltimore Ravens where he became a starter. He then played the next three seasons with the New York Jets before having short stints with the Denver Broncos and New Orleans Saints. He was released in final cuts by the Saints on Saturday.
During Leonhard's time with the Jets, he played under defensive coordinator Mike Pettine, who joined the Bills as defensive coordinator in January. With plantar fasciitis causing problems for Jairus Byrd and a lack of experience behind him, Leonhard is a player that can immediately contribute in Pettine's defense.
In 110 career games, Leonhard has recorded eight interceptions, three forced fumbles and 28 passes defended.
