Baltimore’s Arthur Jones out for Week 1

The Ravens will be without a key defensive linemen in the season opener against Denver.

US PRESSWIRE

The Baltimore Ravens will be without starting defensive lineman Arthur Jones on Thursday against the Broncos. Jones has missed time due to an illness and has already been ruled out of Week 1, according to Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun.

Jones played in Baltimore’s third preseason game, but has not practiced since. Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said Jones’ absence was due to a “personal health issue” according to Zrebiec. Harbaugh said the issue isn’t considered to be serious.

Although there may not be long-term ramifications, the defending Super Bowl champions will have to get by without Jones against Denver. Jones played his way into a bigger role last season, starting six of the final 10 regular season games. He started the Super Bowl against San Francisco and recorded a sack.

With Jones out, Marcus Spears is expected to start for Baltimore, according to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun. The Ravens signed Spears to a two-year deal this offseason. The 30-year-old has plenty of starting experience, having started 89 games during his eight years in Dallas.
