Terrelle Pryor will start for Raiders, according to report

The Raiders haven’t officially announced a starting quarterback, but iit will be Terrelle Pryor under center per a report.

Dennis Allen won't say who will start at quarterback for Oakland in Week 1, but sources around the league said Terrelle Pryor won the job, according to a report from Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle.

The move isn't necessarily a surprise as Tafur reported Pryor took the first offensive snap during Monday's practice. Pryor showed flashes during the preseason and his athleticism gives Oakland another dimension, especially with the struggles the Raiders' offensive line had in the preseason.

While he made a few explosive plays, Pryor lacked consistency in the exhibition season. He completed just 3-of-8 passes for 31 yards against Seattle in the final preseason game while also throwing an interception. Unlike Matt Flynn, however, Pryor does have some long-term upside as he is still just 24 years old and has all of the physical tools. The Raiders could benefit from giving him a shot to play and potentially develop.

Flynn opened camp with a significant lead on the starting job. However, he struggled in the third preseason game and there were questions about his arm strength. He didn't play in the final preseason game due to a sore arm. This is the second straight season he opened a training camp penciled in as the starter only to lose the job. Russell Wilson beat out Flynn last season in Seattle.

Pryor and the Raiders open their season against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.
