NFL news roundup: Michael Vick injured in loss to Chiefs; Browns players on edge

Not only did Eagles fans have to suffer through Andy Reid’s homecoming victory, but their starting quarterback is now hobbled. Meanwhile, Trent Richardson’s departure from the Browns means no one is safe in Cleveland.

Andy Reid couldn't have asked for a better homecoming on Thursday night as his Kansas City Chiefs limited the prolific Philadelphia Eagles offense to its lowest output of the season en route to a 26-16 win. At 3-0, the Chiefs have already passed their win total for the entire 2012 season.

Chip Kelly's Eagles offense looked unstoppable through the first couple of weeks, but it came crashing back to earth against a formidable Kansas City defense. Four turnovers marred a sloppy first half, although a sputtering Chiefs offense kept the game competitive well into the second half. Michael Vick went just 13-for-30 for 201 yards while throwing two picks.

Michael Vick injures ankle late in loss to Chiefs

Adding injury to insult, Vick limped gingerly off the field after the Eagles’ final offensive play -- a sack-fumble with just over a minute left in the fourth quarter. Reports indicate that it was just a rolled ankle and that the quarterback could have returned if necessary, but any injury news on the notoriously fragile Vick is concerning. The former Pro Bowler has yet to play in more than 13 games during his four seasons in Philly and much has been made of whether he will be able to hold up in Kelly’s fast-paced offense.

Brandon Flowers leaves Chiefs-Eagles with knee injury

The Chiefs got some bad news themselves after cornerback Brandon Flowers left during the fourth quarter. He apparently re-aggravated his bothersome knee. Flowers had been listed as questionable heading into Thursday, but was declared active and looked fine well into the second half while helping limit the explosive DeSean Jackson. Late in the third quarter, however, he allowed Jackson to get behind him for a big 40-yard catch and left the game not long after. Details on the extent of the injury have not yet been released.

Browns players on edge after Trent Richardson trade

The Cleveland Browns sent a clear message after trading away star running back Trent Richardson on Wednesday: they are rebuilding for the future and are willing to deal anyone on the roster to make that happen. All-Pro left tackle Joe Thomas expressed his and his teammates' sudden sense of insecurity when he told NFL Network that "we're all on the trading block."

Big moves typically don't occur within the NFL season. If the Browns are willing to part ways with a player they spent the third overall pick of the 2012 NFL Draft on, it would seem that no one on the roster is exempt. With the team brass all but throwing in the towel on the 2013 season only two weeks in, things could get very interesting in Cleveland from here on out.
