NFL news roundup: Ray Rice injury, Peyton Hillis released and more

Ray Rice may miss Sunday’s game (and then some), Peyton Hillis was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and more you may have missed from Saturday.

Doug Pensinger

Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice could miss two weeks with a hip flexor strain. Officially, he's listed as doubtful on the team's injury report, and John Harbaugh has described him as "day-to-day." If the report is accurate, though, Rice will miss Sunday's game against the Houston Texans and the team's Week 4 matchup as well. It's better safe than sorry with Rice, and hip injuries in general.

Here’s what else you might have missed from Saturday in the NFL:

Bucs release Hillis

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers released running back Peyton Hillis on Saturday. Hillis was signed in the offseason to be a backup, but he hasn't managed to make a dent in the depth chart. Doug Martin is the unquestioned starter, but Hillis couldn't advance past either Brian Leonard or Mike James. It's anybody's guess as to whether or not he'll find another team.

Brown ruled out for Week 3

Houston Texans left tackle Duane Brown has been officially ruled out for Sunday's game against the Baltimore Ravens. Brown is dealing with severe turf toe and did not practice at all this week. He was originally expected to be a game-time decision, but it's clear the Texans want to keep him away from the risk of further injury. Ryan Harris will get the start. Brown had a streak of starting 78 consecutive games prior to Sunday.

Bush could be held out

Detroit Lions running back Reggie Bush could be held out of Sunday's game against the Washington Redskins. Bush was injured in last week's 25-21 loss to the Arizona Cardinals when he took a helmet to the knee in the second quarter. He did not return to the game, and has been limited in practice this week. If he can't go, then Joique Bell will get the start and the bulk of the carries.

Spencer is a game-time decision

Dallas Cowboys defensive end Anthony Spencer will be a game-time decision on Sunday. Spencer underwent minor knee surgery and missed most of training camp and the season opener against the New York Giants. He did get into the game against the Kansas City Chiefs, but did not see very many snaps. He missed practice on Wednesday and Friday.
