Carolina Panthers' wide receiver Steve Smith left Sunday's game with a hip injury, but re-entered the game after trainers put a pad on his hip.

Smith was running a deep route on a Cam Newton pass when he fell hard on his left hip as he attempted to catch the pass. He remained down on the field for several minutes surrounded by trainers and Newton. Smith limped to the sideline and missed a series before re-entering the game.

The Panthers' receiver last missed a game in 2010. Smith is Carolina's top receiving threat with 1,000 yards in each of the last two seasons. Brandon LaFell and Greg Olsen are the most tenured receivers on the roster other than Smith, but neither is a long-term option.

Smith will continue to play in Sunday’s game, but his status will be something to watch as the game continues.
