Greg Schiano remains away from Buccaneers due to family emergency

The former Rutgers coach stayed in Boston to tend to his family following another defeat.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano did not fly back to Florida with his team after its 23-3 loss on Sunday afternoon at Gillette Stadium, staying behind for a family medical emergency, according to Adam Schefter.

It is unclear when Schiano will rejoin the Buccaneers. Things could not have gotten off to a worse start for Tampa Bay this season, losing the first three games including two on last-second, game-winning field goals.

There have also been loud rumors of discontent within the team, ranging from corner Darrelle Revis being unhappy with the defensive scheme to quarterback Josh Freeman and Schiano being at odds. There was also a team meeting to clear the air about Schiano, and we are not even into October.

After going 7-9 in his first NFL season, many expected Schiano and his team to make a leap this season, but thus far it has been anything but smooth.
