Colts vs. 49ers 2013: Indianapolis victorious in San Francisco

Our SB Nations writers are sharing their thoughts on the Colts’ 27-7 win over the 49ers.

The Colts' ground game was on display as Indianapolis cruised to a 27-7 road victory over the San Francisco 49ers. Quarterback Andrew Luck, running back Ahmad Bradshaw and the newly-acquired Trent Richardson all had touchdowns as the Colts controlled the line of scrimmage against the now-struggling 49ers.

The Colts defense also showed up on Sunday against San Francisco, holding 49ers' quarterback Colin Kaepernick without a touchdown in the blowout win. Kaepernick was held to combine 170 yards and was intercepted by Colts cornerback Cassius Vaughn. The Colts are now 2-1 while the 49ers are 1-2.

Josh Wilson of Stampede Blue believes Colts’ head coach Chuck Pagano deserves credit for the win:

This is the type of win that, like the Packers game last season, can turn around a season. Will it for the Colts? I don't know, but considering the circumstances, it's likely. And if not this year, this definitely was a statement game for Chuck Pagano and the Colts to their fans and the rest of the NFL: they're well on their way to becoming the monster that Pagano has talked so much about.

Charles Deveraux of Niners Nation is bummed following the 49ers’ second-straight defeat:

This morning feels like the day after you found out that Santa Claus is a fraud. It’s like everything we’ve been told for the past two years was all just one big lie. They said our coaches were brilliant, that our running game was sound, that our run defense was stout, and our off-field character above reproach. And in just two short weeks it’s all come crashing down. On this grim Monday morning, that 49ers dream castle looks like just one more liquor store on 3rd and Newcomb...

NFL writers reached deep into their thesauruses for synonyms to describe the darkness that has descended on the 49ers. This morning’s links tell of a “particularly dark,” “morose,” “reeling,” “flummoxed,” team coached by a “desperate man” making “horrible decisions” that has lead to “implod-o-rama.” Well, at least no one is overreacting to what is hopefully just a little bump in the 49ers road. On Tuesday we can regain some composure and perspective. But Monday is officially freak out day.

Next up for the 49ers is road trip on a short week against the Rams on Thursday Night Football, while the Colts will travel to Jacksonville to take on the Jaguars in Week 4.
