Marcedes Lewis injury: Jaguars TE expected to play

The Jaguars offense could get a boost this week with the return of Marcedes Lewis.

Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis is expected to make his season debut this week after missing the first three games of the season due to a calf strain, according to Mark Long of the Associated Press.

Lewis suffered the calf strain early in training camp. He sat out the final three preseason games to rest the injury, but was still unable to play in any of the first three games this season. He was a limited participant in practice on Thursday and Friday last week, his first practices since the start of the season.

His return to the lineup should help Jacksonville's struggling passing game. The Jaguars are 28th in the NFL in passing yards, with minimal production from their tight ends. Allen Reisner, who has started in place of Lewis, has five catches for 40 yards this season.

The 29-year-old Lewis figured to be a big part of the offensive attack before the calf injury. Prior to training camp, Jacksonville offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch said the Jaguars were going to try to find ways to get Lewis the ball. The Jaguars host the Indianapolis Colts this week.
