Chris Ivory injury: Jets RB could miss extended time

The New York Jets aren’t optimistic that their top running back will return quickly.

Sitting at 2-1 the New York Jets are flying high, but their ground game has taken a significant shot with the news Chris Ivory could miss an extended period after re-injuring a hamstring he hurt in training camp.

According to a report by ESPN's Rich Cimini the Jets are "not expecting a quick rebound" for Ivory who strained a different part of the hamstring than he hurt in camp. His absence is exacerbated by Mike Goodson, who has one more week to serve as part of a four-game suspension he received before the start of the season.

Prior to the injury, Ivory was the Jets' most productive rusher, but the emergence of Bilal Powell takes some pressure of the front office to find a replacement. Powell ran for a career-high 149 yards against the Buffalo Bills, and immediately becomes the team's starter.

The Jets are looking to secure an unexpected playoff spot following a woeful 2012 season, but both New England and Miami are 3-0 teams in the AFC East, making the Jets’ path considerably more difficult.
