Marc Trestman: Michael Bush, not Matt Forte, to get goal-line carries

Michael Bush has vultured plenty of goal-line touchdowns and that will apparently continue in Chicago.

Jason Bridge-USA TODAY Sports

To the dismay of Matt Forte fantasy football owners everywhere, Chicago head coach Marc Trestman said Michael Bush will get the goal-line carries for the Bears.

“We’ve kind of isolated and declared Michael our goal-line running back,” Trestman said, via Rich Campbell of the Chicago Tribune.

Chicago has used both Bush and Forte in goal-line situations this season, although it sounds like Bush will get the majority of opportunities going forward. That could be a major blow to Forte’s fantasy football value with both of his touchdowns this season coming in goal-line situations.

At 6’1 and 245 pounds, Bush has the size to be a bruising short-yardage runner, although that doesn’t mean he’ll excel near the goal line. On Sunday against Pittsburgh, Chicago had a first-and-goal from the 1-yard line following a 55-yard run by Forte. Bush got the ball on first down and was stopped for no gain. Following an incomplete pass, Bush got the ball again and was again stopped short of the goal line. The Bears went for it on fourth down and Bush was finally able to pick up the one yard to score.

Forte has carried the bulk of the load thus far, averaging 4.1 yards per carry. Bush has rushed 16 times in three games and is averaging 1.5 yards per carry.
