Nate Burleson suffered a broken arm in a car accident Monday night, leaving the Lions scrambling for receiver depth.

Nate Burleson suffered a broken arm in a car accident Monday night, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. The Detroit Lions wide receiver was reportedly driving home after watching Monday Night Football with teammates before getting in the accident, which involved no other vehicles. According to a statement released by the Lions, police found that alcohol was not involved. Via DetroitLions.com beat writer Tim Twentyman:

“Lions wide receiver Nate Burleson was involved in a one car accident overnight,” the statement read. “Burleson suffered a broken arm and will undergo surgery today. Police confirm there was no alcohol involved. We will provide appropriate updates when more information on Burleson’s condition becomes available.”

Burleson had six receptions for 116 yards against the Washington Redskins last Sunday in what was his best outing since the 2007 season. He led the Lions in receptions through three games despite the presence of Calvin Johnson.

The Lions will look to second-year wide receiver Ryan Broyles to make up for Burleson's production for the time being. He played 17 snaps against the Redskins and notched three receptions for 34 yards in his first game appearance of the season. Broyles is coming off a torn ACL he suffered early in December of last season.
