Danny Amendola injury: Patriots WR to be ‘100 percent shortly’

The Patriots may be getting back wide receiver Danny Amendola sooner than most expected.

Stew Milne-USA TODAY Sports

New England Patriots' wide receiver Danny Amendola may be close to returning to the field, according to ESPN Boston's Mike Reiss. Amendola has missed the last two games this season while nursing a groin injury, but told Reiss that he believes he will be fully healed "shortly."

The veteran wide receiver injured his groin during his Patriots' regular season debut against the Bills on Sept. 8. Amendola signed with the Patriots during the summer and is set to fill the void left by the newly departed Wes Welker in the slot. However, the Texas Tech alum has a history of injury problems.

From 2011-2012, Amendola missed 20 regular season games with a variety of injuries. He has only played an entire season once in his five-year career. Despite the injury in Week 1, he was able secure 10 passes for 104 yards against Buffalo in the opener. Since Amendola went down due to injury, quarterback Tom Brady has had to rely on Julian Edelman along with rookies Kenbrell Thompkins and Aaron Dobson.

Amendola is not expected play against the Falcons when the Patriots visit Atlanta on Sunday Night Football.
