NFL injury roundup: Terrelle Pryor doubtful, Le’Veon Bell to start Sunday

Le’Veon Bell received good news on the injury front Thursday, while Terrelle Pryor got mixed news. Veteran players such as Andre Johnson, Charles Tillman and Miles Austin may struggle to make Sunday kickoffs, however.

Terrelle Pryor has been cleared to practice, but is still unlikely to play Week 4 for the Oakland Raiders against the Washington Redskins this Sunday. Pryor suffered a concussion late during the Raiders' loss to the Denver Broncos on Monday night.

There is still some progress to be made before Pryor can suit up for this weekend, according to Levi Damien at Raiders blog Silver And Black Pride. Pryor did not put on a helmet, and was limited to light work on the side when he returned to practice Thursday. He could return to practice in full Friday, but by then the coaching staff may still give Matt Flynn the starting nod after nearly a full week of practice with the first-team offense.

More injury headlines from Thursday:

Le’Veon Bell to start Sunday vs. Vikings

Le'Veon Bell will finally make his much anticipated rookie debut for the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. Bell has been on the mend since suffering a Lisfranc injury in early August. He maintains that he is now 100 percent healthy, however, and will be handed the starting job against the Minnesota Vikings as a result.

It's hard to know what Bell's expectations are. Considering that the Steelers' running game is averaging just 3.0 yards per carry through three games, it's safe to say to say that Bell should at least be an improvement over Isaac Redman, Jonathan Dwyer and Felix Jones.

Andre Johnson, Duane Brown back at practice

Arguably the two most important players on the Houston Texans offense were back at practice Thursday. Wide receiver Andre Johnson and Duane Brown both participated, but were still limited. Head coach Gary Kubiak suggested that both players will be game-time decisions for Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Johnson is dealing with bruised shin he suffered during last weekend's loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Brown is dealing with a sprained toe.

Charles Tillman held out of practice Thursday

The Chicago Bears could be without arguably their best defensive player for Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions. Charles Tillman was held out of practice Thursday, marking two straight days that the cornerback has not practiced due to knee and groin injuries.

Tillman was listed as questionable before suiting up last week against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He also missed practice Wednesday and Thursday before being upgraded to a limited participant in practice Friday, so it’s possible that the Bears are following the same precautionary plan this week.

Mile Austin misses practice again

Miles Austin is looking iffier by the day for Sunday's game between the Dallas Cowboys and the San Diego Chargers. Austin missed practice again Thursday while dealing with the hamstring injury he suffered Sunday against the St. Louis Rams.

Teammate Dwayne Harris also missed practice Thursday, potentially leaving the Cowboys scrambling for wide receiver depth. Behind Dez Bryant, rookie Terrance Williams could suit up as the team’s No. 2 wideout.
