A report Wednesday indicated that Spencer would be done for the year, with his agent releasing the news he would undergo micro-fracture surgery with an expected return time of January or February 2014. Spencer’s decision to weigh his options is an understandable one; the seven-year veteran is playing under a franchise tag this season, and is expected to test free agency.
Spencer has appeared in one game this season, registering two tackles in a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. He was coming off the best season of his career where he totaled 95 tackles and 11.0 sacks, en route to the first Pro Bowl appearance of his career.
The Cowboys aren't having too much trouble finding pass rushers this year. DeMarcus Ware has four sacks already, while Jason Hatcher, Bruce Carter and George Selvie all have multiple sacks.
