Terrelle Pryor injury: Raiders QB expected to sit vs. Redskins with concussion

Terrelle Pryor will likely sit Sunday after returning to practice late this week, making Matt Flynn the Raiders’ starting quarterback for this Sunday’s game against the Redskins.

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Terrelle Pryor is expected to sit Sunday when the Oakland Raiders play the Washington Redskins, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. Pryor suffered a concussion late during Monday night's loss to the Denver Broncos. With Pryor on the bench, the Raiders are expected to start Matt Flynn at quarterback.

Pryor returned to practice Thursday, raising hopes that he would be behind center. He did not put on a helmet, however, and was limited to light work on the side. Even if Pryor was able to participate fully in practice Friday, it may have been too much to ask him to start against the Redskins with so little preparation. Meanwhile, Flynn has been practicing with the first-team offense throughout the week.

The Raiders no doubt want to be as safe with the young quarterback as possible, especially after the organization came under fire from the NFL Players Association earlier this week. The NFLPA is currently investigating the Raiders over how the team handled the diagnosis of Pryor’s concussion Monday.

The Raiders had several minutes of down time to examine Pryor after he took the hit that would eventually knock him out of the game, but they failed to follow concussion protocol and allowed Pryor to return to the field. Pryor tweeted after the game that he had no recollection of the hit he took.
