Vikings interested in Josh Freeman, according to report

The Minnesota Vikings could be looking to add Josh Freeman to bolster their quarterback group.

After being benched this week, quarterback Josh Freeman could be out of Tampa Bay soon. The Minnesota Vikings may be among the interested parties for the apparent trade candidate, according to CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora.

After the Buccaneers elected to move forward with rookie Mike Glennon as the team's starter this week, Freeman appears to be firmly on the trading block. Head coach Greg Schiano has shown a lack of faith in the veteran quarterback, with a series of reports indicating friction between the two. There's even rumor of an elaborate vote-rigging scheme to ensure Freeman was not named a team captain prior to the season.

Meanwhile, the Vikings are lacking solid quarterback play this season. Christian Ponder was selected in the first round of the 2011 draft, but may not be equipped to power a vertical passing attack. He is completing 59 percent of his passes, throwing five interceptions with just two touchdowns.

Freeman is set to hit free agency this offseason, making his future especially cloudy. Even if a team like Minnesota acquires him this season, the quarterback could be back on the market again a few months from now.

Both the Buccaneers and Vikings have opened the 2013 season at 0-3, last in their respective divisions.
