NFL injuries: Miles Austin, Steven Jackson ruled out for Week 4

Steven Jackson and Miles Austin are among the significant players who will sit out in Week 4.

Ronald Martinez

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Miles Austin has struggled with hamstring issues in each of the last two seasons, and it looks as though he's making it three years in a row. A hamstring injury will keep Austin out of Sunday's game against the San Diego Chargers.

Dwayne Harris is expected to start in the veteran's place, despite the fact that Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett assured media earlier in the week that Austin's hamstring injury wasn't serious.

Also ruled out is Atlanta Falcons running back Steven Jackson for the team's Sunday night game against the New England Patriots. Missing Jackson in Week 3 didn't slow down the Falcons' rushing attack much, though, and Jason Snelling and Jacquizz Rodgers managed 139 combined rushing yards.

The Indianapolis Colts will have to rely on newly acquired Trent Richardson to pick up the slack on Sunday, since they will be without running back Ahmad Bradshaw when they face the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 4. Fortunately for Richardson and Indy, the Jaguars have the NFL's worst rushing defense.

In quarterback news, the Minnesota Vikings will start Matt Cassel in their London game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Regular starter Christian Ponder has been ruled out with a rib injury. In three starts this year, Ponder has tossed two touchdown passes and five interceptions en route to an 0-3 start for the Vikings.

Rounding out the rest of the Week 4 injuries, Jets running back Chris Ivory, cornerback Dee Milliner and Jaguars safety Dwight Lowery will not play, while Ravens defensive tackle Terrence Cody, Browns outside linebacker Jabaal Sheard and Bengals cornerback Leon Hall are doubtful for action.
