Patriots release CB Marquice Cole, promote Kanorris Davis to active roster

New England has moved things around in its secondary leading up to Week 4.

The New England Patriots released cornerback Marquice Cole on Friday, the team announced via its website. The Pats are expected to promote Kanorris Davis to the active roster, per to the Boston Globe's Ben Volin.

Cole initially signed with the Patriots as a free agent in March of 2012. He was re-signed at the end of the 2012 season, released on Sept. 1, 2013, and then re-signed a day later. So it’s been quite the month for the 29-year-old veteran. He started one game last year and played in a total of 14, intercepting one pass and recording 12 tackles.

Davis, meanwhile, signed with the Patriots as a rookie free agent following the 2013 NFL Draft. He played his college ball at Troy, where he was a standout safety. Davis figures to factor into the Patriots' plans on special teams in Week 4 against the Falcons on Sunday Night Football.

Unless an injury helps him get on the field, Davis’ role will likely be limited.
