Jerry Jones praises Jason Garrett for new approach to Cowboys’ offense

The Cowboys are 2-1, and Jerry Jones is happy with the evolution of the offense.

Some football coaches take a scheme they've used successfully and stick to it, regardless of the results. Jason Garrett is not one of those coaches. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Garrett's scheme is fresh and evolving, and the result has been more production.

“He’s a young coach, and one of the things you’ve got to remember, that you should remember, is that, as a young coach, your system should be evolving,” Jones said, via the Star-Telegram.

Jones said the offense has a lot of similar traits to what the Cowboys ran previously, but there have been changes. There was a philosophy change along the offensive line and added emphasis to using tight ends.

“We’ve had some dramatic change with the Cowboys since last year,” Jones said.

The changes have led to an improvement on the scoreboard, but not in the box score. The Cowboys are averaging 27.7 points per game this season, up from the 23.5 they averaged last season. Dallas’ yards per game, however, have dropped by nearly 30 yards, and its yards per play have dropped from 5.7 to 5.4.
