Redskins vs. Raiders 2013 game recap: Robert Griffin III and company finally get a win

After three bad losses to open the year, Washington finally got a break by traveling to Oakland and facing a Raiders team that was without Terrelle Pryor. Can the Redskins recover to make the playoffs again?

Ezra Shaw

The Redskins were desperate for a win this week after starting the year 0-3, and the Raiders seemed happy to oblige despite taking a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. Washington scored the next 24 points -- unanswered -- and beat Oakland, 24-14, to get its first win of the year. The Raiders fall to 1-3 after the loss.

The Raiders were without quarterback Terrelle Pryor, ruled out before game time with a concussion. Matt Flynn was unable to keep momentum for Oakland going after a punt block return for a touchdown and 18-yard touchdown pass to Mychal Rivera had the Raiders up 14-0 early. Redskins corner David Amerson returned a Flynn pass 45 yards to bring Washington within 14-13 going into halftime, and then Robert Griffin III gave the Redskins the lead in the third with a touchdown pass to Pierre Garcon.

With the Cowboys losing to the Chargers on Sunday, Washington moves to within a game of first place in the NFC East. The Raiders fall further behind the undefeated Chiefs and Broncos in the AFC West.

Fantasy studs and duds

Griffin was okay, throwing for 227 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions, but still is not a part of the running game like he was before his ACL injury. Flynn threw for 227 yards also, with one touchdown and one interception.

Darren McFadden had only 29 yards rushing and left with an injury. Rashad Jennings took over and had 15 carries for 45 yards and no touchdowns. Roy Helu rushed for 41 yards and a touchdown. He may be one to pick up.

Injury report

Tough day for the fantasy backs: Alfred Morris left the game with a rib injury and did not return. Darren McFadden left the game with a hamstring injury and did not return.

Did they cover?

The Redskins were 3.5-point favorites over the Raiders on the road, per OddsShark.com, so they covered easily.

What’s next?

The Redskins have a bye week.
