Isaac Redman named Steelers’ starting running back

Redman will get the start over Felix Jones in the Steeles’ regular-season opener.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have confirmed that running back Isaac Redman will be the starter in Sunday's regular-season opener against the Tennessee Titans.

Redman entered training camp expecting to battle Jonathan Dwyer and rookie Le'Veon Bell for snaps, but Bell went down with a foot injury and Dwyer was waived in final roster cuts. He will get the majority of playing time ahead of LaRod Stephens-Howling and newly-signed Felix Jones. Head coach Mike Tomlin seems to be more confident in Redman's skill set. From the Steelers official website:

“We know what Isaac is capable of,” said Tomlin. “He has answered the bell for us in the past. We expect him to do it in a big way moving forward, starting this weekend.”

Redman rushed for 410 yards and two touchdowns on 110 carries last season while splitting time with Dwyer and Rashard Mendenhall. He will be the main feature back for the foreseeable future, although the Steelers hope to have Bell back before the end of September.
