Titans 2013 schedule: Will a favorable schedule help Tennessee return to the playoffs?

On paper, the Titans have one of the easiest schedules in the NFL, will it help them get back to the postseason?

US PRESSWIRE

The Tennessee Titans haven't made the playoffs since 2008, but that could change this season if they are able to take advantage of one of the easier schedules in the NFL. Based on the 2012 results, the Titans have the 10th easiest schedule in the league.

In addition to playing the AFC South, the Titans will also face the AFC West, NFC West and other AFC teams who finished third in the division. The fact Tennessee has 10th easiest schedule despite games against Houston, Indianapolis, San Francisco and Seattle says a lot about the rest of the schedule.

Here is a complete look at Tennessee’s 2013 slate of games.

Toughest out: Denver Broncos

The 49ers, Seahawks and Broncos are three of the favorites to win the Super Bowl heading into the season and Tennessee plays all three. Games at home against San Francisco and on the road against Seattle will be tough, but the game against Denver shapes up to be the biggest challenge.

The Titans will travel to Denver in what will be their third straight road came. Three straight games on the road and facing one of the best teams in the AFC would be hard enough, but the game also comes after what should be a challenge on the road against the Colts.

Must win: Oakland Raiders

The Raiders are a mess and will likely contend for the No. 1 pick. That alone should make it enough to be a must win, but where Oakland falls on the schedule only adds to it. The Titans play at home against Indianapolis before the playing the Raiders.

The game against Oakland is followed up with a game at Indianapolis and the game at Denver. If the Titans don’t beat the Raiders, they could easily be looking at a 0-4 stretch late in the season.

Don't overlook: Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs are coming off a 2-14 season so it would be easy to chalk them up as a likely win. Kansas City, however, was better than their record last season and added a lot of talent in the draft and free agency. Add in Alex Smith via a trade and Andy Reid and the Chiefs could be a sleeper contender.

The Titans will host Kansas City before playing at Seattle and against San Francisco leading into the bye. A loss against the Chiefs could mean three straight defeats going into the off week.
