Darrelle Revis to let Buccaneers know what Jets ‘used to run’

Darrelle Revis knows the Jets’ defense well after playing in New York for six seasons, and has promised to let the Buccaneers know as many secrets as he can in preparation for the season opener.

Darrelle Revis appears to be on track to play against the New York Jets during the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' season opener on Sunday, but the veteran cornerback may also be useful in other ways. A former Jet himself, Revis said that he will reveal to offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan what the Jets "used to run" on defense, according to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times. Via Stroud:

“I’ll spill the beans and let him know what we used to run, what things coach Ryan might do,” Revis said. “It’s almost like stealing a little bit. That’s what you’ve got to do.”

Revis has been a savvy pass defender for years, and will no doubt use the tricks he has learned to try and bait rookie quarterback Geno Smith into making poor decisions. That is, if Revis actually sees the field. On a conference call with New York media, Revis said "I don't know if I'm playing," according to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News. Revis is returning off a torn ACL suffered early last season.

Of course, Revis’ quote could be simple gamesmanship. He was a full participant in practice Wednesday and seemed confident that he would see reps when speaking with Stroud, though he was unsure how many. It stands to reason that the Bucs and Revis would both want to see the cornerback get as many snaps against his former team as possible.
