Uffsides: Packers vs. 49ers Week 1 preview

The last time we saw the Packers, Colin Kaepernick was running wild over an ill-prepared Green Bay defense. Can San Francisco maintain its dominance over another one of the NFC’s top teams?

Matt Ufford previews the Green Bay Packers' trip to Candlestick Park, where they were dismantled by Colin Kaepernick during the divisional round of last year's playoffs. Dom Capers and his defensive staff traveled to Texas A&M this offseason to study how to stop the read-option. That makes sense, considering Kaepernick and Johnny Football have similar skill sets, though Kaepernick's autograph-signing abilities are a bit less inhibited.

The 49ers have a few issues of their own, however, beginning with their injury-decimated receiving unit. Safety Dashon Goldson bolted in free agency for Tampa Bay, but the Niners quickly filled that hole by selecting Eric Reid in the first round of April's draft. The defense looks just as nasty as ever heading into 2013, with Patrick Willis, NaVorro Bowman and co. primed for another dominating season. We'll find out whether they'll be able to stifle Aaron Rodgers and the high-flying Packers offensive attack this Sunday.
