Houston Texans safety Ed Reed will miss the team's season opener on Monday, at least according to one of his teammates. Cornerback Johnathan Joseph said on Friday that Reed is "obviously" out for the game. At the time of writing, Reed wasn't confirmed out by the team. He's missed all of training camp and the preseason recovering from hip surgery, and finally got back to practice this week. It will be interesting to see if he makes it back.

Of course, injuries are not something to celebrate, but the return of Friday injury reports and a regular schedule is even more confirmation that the NFL is back. Among the bigger names to hit the injury reports include Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Darrelle Revis, who is listed as probable, New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz, who is also listed as probable, and New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, who is listed as doubtful.
The Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers are set to play in Oakland on Oct. 6, which is right in the middle of the MLB playoffs. The Oakland A's are currently in a playoff race and could be playing at that point in the postseason, so the NFL is discussing the possibility with turning that game into a road game and converting the Chargers' home game on Dec. 22 to a road game. It seems likely that the move will be made at this point, as it's in the NFL's best interest to make the change sooner rather than later.
Former NFL tight end Aaron Hernandez pleaded not guilty to all charges at his arraignment on Thursday. Hernandez was charged with first-degree murder and multiple firearms charges in connection with the alleged murder of Odin Lloyd in June. Hernandez was held without bail, and a trial seems far away at this point.
New England Patriots cornerback Alfonzo Dennard was scheduled to appear in court on Friday, but he had it postponed until Sept. 16. Dennard has to attend a probation violation hearing in connection with his DUI arrest earlier in the summer.
