Casey Hayward injury: Packers CB could be out a month
Casey Hayward is dealing with a severe hamstring injury and will be out for at least the first month of the season.

Hayward suffered the injury early in training camp and missed several weeks of practice. He tried to return in the third preseason game, but aggravated the injury and hasn't practiced since. The Packers have a bye in Week 3, so the closest date to a return could be the Oct. 6 game against the Detroit Lions.
Hayward's loss is a major blow to the Packers after a breakout rookie season. He recorded six interceptions, one forced fumble, 21 passes defended and 53 tackles in 2012. Rookie Micah Hyde is expected to take Hayward's place at slot cornerback for now, with Sam Shields and Tramon Williams starting on the outside. The Packers had planned to give him a bigger role in the defense and thought he could reach double-digit interceptions this year, but it doesn't look like that will be happening now.
