Mark Sanchez injury: Jets QB could have partially torn labrum, per report

Sanchez’s injury may be worse than some expected.

New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez will get a second opinion on his shoulder this week from Dr. James Andrews amid fears he may have a partially torn labrum, Chris Mortensen of ESPN.com reported Sunday.

Mortensen said Sanchez was throwing with his left arm before the Jets' season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Sanchez is right-handed.

The maligned Jets quarterback was listed as inactive for the Week 1 game at MetLife Stadium. Rookie quarterback Geno Smith will start for New York.

Sanchez was injured on Aug. 24 in the Jets' third preseason game against the New York Giants. The competition for the Jets' starting quarterback job is expected to resume once Sanchez is healthy, though a partially torn labrum would put in question when Sanchez could return.
