Tony Romo injury: Cowboys QB has negative X-rays, will start vs. Chiefs

Romo missed all of one play after being sandwiched between two Giants.

Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo will start in Week 2 against the Kansas City Chiefs after X-rays on his ribs following Sunday's game were negative, Mike Fisher of 105.3 The Fan reported Monday.

Romo went down just before halftime of the Cowboys' 36-31 win over the New York Giants. He missed the final play of the first half, then came back in after halftime and finished with 263 passing yards, two touchdowns (both to tight end Jason Witten) and one interception.

Kyle Orton is the only other quarterback on Dallas' roster.

Dave Halprin at Blogging the Boys was impressed with Romo's performance Sunday considering the injury. The Giants were determined to eliminate the deep passing game to Dez Bryant, so Romo took what the defense gave him, Halprin said.

After the game Romo said that was a totally new defense from the Giants, one he’s never seen them run before. But instead of doing what he’s sometimes done in the past and forcing throws downfield, Romo played the dink-and-dunk game and got a victory out of it.

The Cowboys play the Chiefs on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on Fox.
