Dan Dierdorf doesn’t like safeties

This is one way of breaking down a play.

It's fourth down, the Patriots are up by 11 and everything seems to be going well. That is, until this botched snap and subsequent safety happened.

Let’s be clear here: This is the best possible outcome that could have happened for New England, there is no alternate answer -- unless your name is Dan Dierdorf.

Dierdorf is currently announcing the final game of his NFL career, and despite having almost 30 years of experience in the booth, he was advocating that punter Ryan Allen fall on the ball at the 2-yard line and turn it over on downs.

Okay, so let’s break this down.

1. A safety results in two points. 2 = 2

2. A turnover on downs with this field position would likely result in a touchdown. 6 > 2

3. Even a failed drive at this position would result in a chip shot field goal. 3 > 2

Dierdorf's argument was that it could potentially allow the Colts to drive down the field and score again, in which case they got a bonus two points. Except that Andrew Luck followed up with an interception, so as far as we know, two still equals two.
