Anthony Johnson declares for 2014 NFL Draft

Anthony Johnson will enter the NFL Draft after three seasons at LSU. He is considered one of the top defensive tackle prospects in the 2014 draft class.

Daniel Shirey-USA TODAY Sports

LSU defensive tackle Anthony Johnson will forego his final year of eligibility to enter the 2014 NFL Draft. The 6'3, 295-pound junior announced he was leaving LSU via Twitter, one day after the Tigers defeated the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Outback Bowl.

Johnson wreaked havoc in multiple ways for the Tigers. This past season, he racked up 35 total tackles, nine for loss, three of them sacks. He also notched his first career interception, an impressive pick against Georgia. Johnson earned the nickname “Freak” over the course of his three seasons in Baton Rouge, which may bode well for a big Combine performance.

Johnson is rated as the sixth-best defensive tackle prospect in the draft by SB Nation’s Matthew Fairburn, and the 45th best overall prospect on Dan Kadar’s Top 100. Kadar believes that NFL teams will be enamored by Johnson’s athleticism:

For the Outback Bowl, LSU will be without defensive tackle Ego Ferguson, who is suspended for the game. The Tigers have another solid defensive tackle prospect in Anthony Johnson. The junior wasn’t quite as disruptive as he was a season ago, but NFL teams will still like his quickness in the middle.
